A BRIEF HISTORY FROM PAUL HEYENS GSC, CEO

Alberta Glass is one of the oldest names in Glazing (1911).  In 1994 we re-launched the brand and built the new business with a focus on service, quality and accountability.

In 2009 the company transitioned to sole ownership and embarked on a comprehensive strategic planning initiative to propel it to the forefront of the industry.

The strategic partnerships throughout our supply chain with companies like Kawneer, SOTA Glazing, Oldcastle, Vitrum, PPG and Viracon provides access to high quality and technologically superior products and services.

In 2015 Alberta Glass moved into a 42,000 sq ft facility in Calgary and in 2017 into a 10,000 sq ft facility in Edmonton. These facilities allow us to advance our fabrication and material handling capacities through CNC machinery, ACAD and 3-D modelling, product testing and engineering.

Over the years, we have assembled a great team of staff, suppliers and industry partners, all committed to our Core Values and our Purpose of “Proudly Building Better Cities”

All projects begin with planning and estimating. Our team of experienced estimators provide a full and comprehensive cost estimate. We use the latest in glazing software applications and can work in a design assist capacity.

Each project is assigned a project manager and/or Project Coordinator to aggressively manage the schedule, project costs and execution. This includes experienced Gold Seal and LEED accredited staff.

Our fabrication shop uses current technology and methods along with experienced craftsmen to prepare metal and glass products for shipment to site. With a multitude of extrusions, shapes and styles, our fabricators work closely with drafting and engineering personnel, project managers and field installers to deliver systems that integrate into the building envelope.

We are actively involved in the Alberta Apprenticeship Industry Training System through the A.I.T. Board, the PAC’s and the training providers (SAIT and NAIT). Through this involvement, Alberta Glass contributes to keeping the content and curriculum current for the education of apprentice Glaziers. Memberships

Being part of an industry means contributing and participating in its growth. We are active in board positions or as members in the following associations:

Safety

Alberta Glass is continually looking for ways to improve through training, tracking and improvement.

Safety is not just a word at Alberta Glass, it is the cornerstone of our culture and at the core of our values. From our CEO to the employees on site, everyone understands the importance of working safely. Using our cross functional Safety Committee and regular Tailgate Meetings every member of the Alberta Glass team is challenged to always be looking for new and innovative ways to build on our industry leading safety program and to exceed our customers’ expectations.

Every workday starts with a Hazard Assessment Meeting where the day’s duties are planned, hazards identified and prioritized then subsequently controlled or eliminated. In addition, we require that all activities on site have a Safe Job Procedure (SJP) written by the team members that will be performing those duties and approved by our Safety Coordinator prior to the task being completed.

At Alberta Glass training starts on the employees’ first day and continues throughout their career. Courses include Standard First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Rigging, Hoisting, Flag Person Training, Swing Stage, Aerial Work Platforms and Fall Protection as well as numerous equipment certifications.

While our goal is to eliminate workplace incidents completely, we have developed an industry leading incident response plan to ensure all levels of the organization are prepared to respond effectively should they occur.

COR CERTIFICATION

Alberta Glass holds a valid Certificate of Recognition (COR) and is a member in good standing of the Partners in Injury Reduction (PIR) program.
